Bespoke Joinery

Bespoke Fitted Furniture & Joinery

What is bespoke fitted furniture and joinery?

From a floating shelf to a fully fitted dressing room or kitchen, fitted furniture is quite simply, fixed to the fabric of your home. It overcomes awkward angles and difficult dimensions that free-standing furniture would otherwise find problematic. Fitted furniture can dramatically transform how a room looks, feels and functions. Whether by seamlessly integrating furniture from wall-to-wall or floor-to-ceiling or by finally putting that small nook to good use. It can provide a de-cluttered, clean aesthetic whilst optimising your space and storage, all the while adding a sense of effortless luxury.

Creating an Effective Brief

Edward has prepared a series of questions to make sure he fully understands your hopes for and expectations of the project. You don’t need to have all the answers. Edward can help iron out the details for any elements you’re unsure of. Whatever the scale or size of your project, we have a reputation for crafting some of the finest fitted interiors for residential and commercial spaces. Creating a fully bespoke interior involves a few extra steps compared to our freestanding furniture to ensure the end result looks and functions how you want it to. Whatever the aesthetic, shape or size of the project, we guarantee the same high level of attention to detail and professional service throughout.

Designed for you

We don’t have a set, prescribed look. We work with you to create and develop a proposal that reflects your tastes and personality while meeting your functional requirements. By understanding how you want to use the space and how the furniture can support that, we can approach the design with both practicality and creative flair. It is crucial to allow sufficient time to establish the brief, create the design proposal and produce detailed drawings, samples and templates before manufacturing. We typically allow 4-8 weeks for the design stage, though this can be longer depending on project complexity and time taken to align both parties’ diaries.

We charge a non-refundable deposit at this stage based on the size of the project for development time and to secure production time. Typically the deposit is based on the linear meter size of the installation:
• Up to 3 metres – £750
• For each additional meter allow £150-250 depending on specification

As we refine the design, we are also able to refine the  build costs. We will provide a cost estimate alongside the design proposal so you can consider these in tandem. We usually share these over email to give you time to think before discussing the proposal further in person or over the phone. With your feedback, we continue working on the design until you’re fully satisfied with it, at which point we will provide a fixed quotation for your approval.

Do I need to set a budget?

Yes and No. Creating a budget from the outset helps ensure that everyone involved has realistic expectations regarding the type of design that can be accomplished. This approach also helps prevent us from over-specifying requirements. During the design phase, we will manage costs as needed by adjusting the specifications either upward or downward.

While budgets are often crucial, there are times when we have the luxury to concentrate solely on the design’s form and function, assessing costs only after the design is complete. If you are comfortable with this organic and open-ended approach, then setting a budget at the outset is not necessary.

Fitted furniture can vary enormously in its size and specification so pricing it without knowing the scope is very difficult. Once we’ve talked through the project, we can begin to ballpark the type of budget required. Throughout the design process, Edward will manage the complexity and specification of the project with the budget in mind, spending his time, and your money, on what matters most to you. He will always provide a fixed quotation with the final design so you can be sure of costs before proceeding.

Premium Quality – Our completely bespoke service means we can ensure high quality from design to installation, to suit your requirements and style. Getting it right takes time, so bespoke fitted furniture will always cost more than buying a standardised product of similar specification. If you want to get the most from your space without compromise, our bespoke service is ideal for you.

  • Design Deposit starting at £750: A non-refundable deposit is required before we can begin any design work. This deposit is typically calculated based on the linear meter size of the installation. For installations up to 3 meters, the deposit is £750. For each additional meter, please budget an extra £150 to £250, depending on the specifications.
  • Instalment Plan One – Orders up to £10,000: two instalments of 50% before manufacturing and upon completion.
  • Instalment Plan Two – Orders over £10,000: three instalments of 33% before manufacture, 33% during production and 34% upon completion.
  • Instalment Plan Custom – If you would like to tweak our standard instalment plans, we are happy to discuss this at the start of the commission.

Manufacturing & Project Management

Production drawings & Samples

We produce detailed production drawings, samples and, where required, templates for sign-off prior to starting manufacturing so you can be confident the space will look, feel and work how you envisage it.

Expert craftsmanship

Once you’re happy to proceed and we’ve received the first instalment we start the exciting process of manufacturing. Our team of cabinet makers have won some of the highest accolades in the country for craftsmanship, so your project is in safe and reliable hands. You can expect the same exacting standards when they are making fitted furniture as when they make freestanding furniture. Depending on the size of the project we will manage a team of cabinet makers or designate a solo lead maker to work on the piece from start to finish. We will keep you informed of progress throughout the project, and you are very welcome to visit the workshop to see how it’s going and meet the team.

Can you liaise with our builder?

Yes, we can. While we can make free-standing furniture in isolation, fitted furniture often requires working closely with other trades, which we are accustomed to doing. Whether the furniture needs electrics or plumbing installed or decorating around, we are happy to liaise with other trades to make it work.

How long does it take from start to finish?

Manufacturing time is entirely dependent on the design, and can range from 2 to 16 weeks and beyond. We often work with other trades and include specialist materials, which usually adds additional time to the schedule. We will give you an estimated timetable for your specific project once we have enough information.

Delivery and installation

Once we are confident every part of the project meets our exacting standards, we will arrange delivery and installation with you. Typically, Edward or the lead cabinet maker on the project will deliver and install your furniture. For small to medium installations, the makers who built the furniture in the workshop carry out the fitting service. Larger projects are installed by a dedicated fitting team who we know and trust to carry out the work to the same high standards we expect of ourselves.
